Suggest Medication For Dark Spots On Face And Thighs Left By Acne

my age is 18 years, height is 5 feet 11 inches, weight is 65 kilos and i have no medical history.i have two problems, one is that for years now i have had these black marks or spots on my face left due to acne.they were very dark 3-4 years ago but have now become a little light, quite less then they were before but these marks do not disappear entirely.i have used medicines like retino-a,nadoxin and facetin for the marks on the face but i cant see any major effects and my other problem is that 3 months ago i shaved my legs for the first time and immediately after that i started getting boils on my thigh region on both the legs.the boils went away in a month but they left terrible black marks or spots on my legs. i went to a dermatologist who gave me an ointment flutibact to apply on the legs but the medicine does not seem to have any effects.what should i do with these two problems? please advise me both the long term and short term methods or medicines which can help me to get rid of these marks.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

You have developed post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, at both these sites.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a non-specific reaction to any inflammatory insult to skin.
Post-inflammatpory hyperpigmentation is quite common after acne in skin of color. It is due to excess melanin produced by inflammatory process and present as dark spots at sites of previous acne lesions.
These dark spots may persist for weeks or months.
There are various pigment reducing agents like glycolic acid, hydroquinone, kojic acid, arbutin etc which can be used to fade these dark spots.
The mechanism of action of these agents is either exfoliation of existing pigment Or inhibition of synthesis of new melanin Or both.
Besides using pigment lightening creams, it is essential to protect your skin from sun specially face with the help of a sunscreen, to prevent further sun induced darkening.
I suggest you to visit a dermatologist. Your dermatologist will be able to assess the skin condition and advice accordingly.
You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling. Glycolic acid peel is particularly useful for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Take care
