Suggest Medication For Cold And Postnasal Drip

I had two glasses of sangria about two hours ago. I have a cold and would like to take NyQuil tonight. Can I do that? Is it safe? Is there a period of time that I should wait, or am I better not taking it tonight? I am worried about the postnasal drip that I have and my tendency to get sick if I don t dry up that postnasal drip with medication before I go to sleep.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

All these symptoms indicate that you might be having Upper respiratory tract infection.
NyQuil being an OTC medication may provide temporary relief.

The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids & Steam inhalation.
2. Antihistamines like Allegra to provide symptomatic relief.
3. Nasal decongestants drops.
4. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever(if any)
5. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult an ENT specialist for proper clinical examination.
Meanwhile, avoid taking cold food & drinks, maintain adequate hydration & take soft, non-spicy foods.

Wish you good health & a speedy recovery.
Take care.
