Suggest Medication For Chronic Cough With Clear Phlegm

Hi, I ve had a cough for about a week now... Was originally sick with a cold, but the cough is really lingering... Coughing up very little mucus, and if I do it is clear, not yellow or green like an infection.. Should it be lingering this long, it is a pretty heavy cough, I have no fever, but it is annoying and draining

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough with clear phlegm which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for upper respiratory track infection, doctor will examine you clinically and may prescribe antibiotics along with anti histamine medications. Doctor may order X-ray chest to detect level of infection.

For now

- Do warm saline gargles.

- Avoid intake of sharp, spicy food and cold carbonated beverages.

- Keep elevation of head with pillow.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
