Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I would like to know it is worth having hair transplant at the age of 33? One Doctor in Scottsdale Arizona has told me two years ago that I am too young to get hair transplant... He suggested that I should be using Hair Laser. I have tried that, he doesn t work for me. I have tried using castor oil and olive oil before I go bed.
Besides laser or hair transplant, the main treatments include two medications. Minoxidil (Rogaine) is used topically and over the counter. There are many generic brands as well. I would recommend the foam version and not the solution version (much easier to use and worth the extra cost). If you are going to use a particular brand, I would recommend sticking to that brand.
Finasteride is a pill that you can take orally. The only major issue is that it can lower sperm quality as it blocks the conversion of testosterone to other forms. It is generic and quite cheap. Many tele-medicine website can give you a prescription if needed. One other issues is that if you stop the medication, the hair that was helped by the medication can fall out. That is why transplant is usually the best option.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
