Suggest Dosage For Valtrex

I am a type 1 diabetic and I have a line of sores on my lip that will not heal. It is like the skin won t grow back. It has been three months now and so far it has been treated with a daily does of valtrex, no change in condition. I now have a skin abrasion from exercising on too rough of a floor on my elbow that is also not healing, looks the same as the lip. I have a dermatologist appt , but is is still 17 days out. Any ideas of what I can do to help myself heal.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

there is no drug with scientifically proven healing potential. Valtrex may reduce the time that lesions caused by herpes require to heal but it's usually given for 7 days only. For the rest of your skin abrasions you can only make sure you keep them clean and dry. There's nothing more you can do at this point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
