I was taking 20 mg before I went back. So my question t you is, If my thyroid is low am I suppose to take a low dose of methimazole? Thank you Sherrie

dear sherrie, hyperthyroidism is a condition in which your thyroid gland produces excess of thyroid hormones which leads to toxicity. methimazole decreases the thyroid hormone poduction, therby normalising the levels.sometimes levels of thyroid hormone fall below normal as side effect. your doctor decreased the dose because your blood thyroxine decreased below the normal limit.Therefoe by lowering the doses, your body will replenish thyroxine and help in maintaining internal balance .
