Suggest Diet For PKD

I received an email stating that I could get a shopping list. I thought that would be helpful as I am having challenges figuring out what to eat. I have PKD and have been doing OK until this past few months. I just get frustrated trying to figure out what to eat each day

Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Hello. No wonder you are frustrated. The diet for PKD is complex and cannot be done in a public forum. I would suggest that you see a credentialled Dietitian to get a personal diet with menus worked out for you to protect your kidneys and give you ideas on how to liberalize that diet! You are living on a restricted protein diet of .6 g/kg, limiting salt to around 1200 mg sodium (not salt, sodium), drinking 3 Liters of water per day and avoiding caffein, aspirin and methyparabens. You really could benefit from help. If I knew where you lived I could make a referral. In the US, just get a hold of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and in India it is the India Dietetic Association. My best wishes go out to you. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
