Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was doing dishes and cut my middle finger knuckle with a broken glass in the sink. It was just a small cut but there was a lot of blood. I rinsed it under warm water, finished the dishes and then covered it with a band aid. About 2 hrs. later my entire finger especially around the knuckle got really swollen, tight and very tender. The cut area looks healed. I did a cold compress and took ibuprofen. 24 hrs. later and its still the same. Can hardly use finger and it is very sensitive to the touch. 28 female very healthy.
Swelling and tenderness are normal reponses to a wound, and I wouldn't get too worried about it. If only the bleeding wouldn't have stopped there would have been a cause for concern. For now, continue with a cold compress for a day and then shift to a warm compress to reduce swelling. Also, if possible initiate the application of a topical antibiotic like neosporin.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
