Suggest Causes And Remedy For Constant Hard Bowels
Hi...I'm 64, have to take laxatives (for many years) to move my bowels. Then I have horrible pain and have to take pain pills for the pain. I have gastroparises and my gastra dr. has done every test available. I'm weaning myself off the hydromohphone but I want to get to the bottom os this contant pain/ Thank you fpr any help.

Hydromorphone drug is the most known cause of constipation or hard stools known in medical field and you are trying to wean off it and this is great to know.
It is the medicines from this group that are known to cause hard stools and since you must be taking this for a long time the bowel habit has changed which take a long time to settle.
Hence I would suggest you the following in such a situation:
- Continue laxatives, take stool softeners.
- Wean off Hydromorphone drug as soon as possible.
- Identify the foods and beverages that you know help evacuation and continue with these only.
- Green leafy vegetables help.
Go for real time barium meal studies under fluoroscopy to see for the transit time of barium to know the time taken for transit of food through various parts of small and large intestine.
