Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I just has a bowel movement and noticed that there was a long (about 10 cm) strand of something that I can only really describe as fibrous. It was off white and fairly skinny (maybe 0.3 cm wide). Is this normal? I can't think of anything I have eaten lately that would have fibrous strands in it. Thanks!
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Such a strand in stool that is about 10 cm and fibrous can be one of the following: Round worm being the most common cause. Some sort of thread or so which you might have eaten or swallowed inadvertently. Desquamated mucosal lining although this is very rare. You should have collected it and sent to the lab for evaluation. Anyways, I would advise you the following in such a situation: Send the sample for stool for three consecutive days. Get a course of medications for intestinal worm eradication. Always see the stool for recurrence of such things. Always take only fresh homemade foods and beverages. No packaged or outside food. Wash hands with soap and water every time you visit the bathroom.
