Suggest Cause For Recurrent Abdominal Pain In Children

My son was sent home from school today with a stomach ache. When i questioned him, he says his stomach feels numb. He points to the center at and just above the belly button. Once or twice within the last few hours he says he has pain on the sides. Would this be a virus or something else
