General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Muscle pain can accompany arthritic pain in some persons.
This is the reason that for some, strengthening the muscles surrounding a joint can be helpful.
If the pain is occurring with specific movements then it is likely bone or soft tissue.

Sudden stabs of pain, if this is its nature, can also be related to the nerves as well. If the pain is not with specific movements then it may be nerve related.

Your doctor would be able to assess you to determine to the exact cause.

Treatment would depend on the cause found.

I hope this helps
