Suggest An Alternative Of Furosemide

My wife is taking forosdmide and has been hospitalized with dehydration and severe back and stomach pain. She has a plastic heart valve and pacemaker. We are trying to get the doctor to prescribe an alternative. Can you suggest an alternative medicine?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Furosamide is a potent diuretic. It is a drug used to treat excessive fluid accumulation and swelling (edema) of the body. Since she is already dehydrated, administration of an alternate diuretic could worsen her condition. Also, care needs to be taken as she has a plastic heart valve and pace-maker. She needs a clinical evaluation before administration of any such drug.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
