i have been diabetic since I was 9, so about 34 years now. I am on R and N and use the vials These cost me $28. a piece. My daughter whom has been diabetic since she was also 9 and is now 18 is on Novolog and lantus. I struggle to be able to afford her insulin . Isn t there another insulin that is much cheaper for her. She will be going to college in May and I know I will struggle more with paying for college and insulin. Please help
We understand that the convenience of this insulin comes with high cost. Insulin is of a lot of types, and there are many combinations. We generally give a person the insulin which suites him/her lifestyle the best.
This includes their daily diet routine, their carb intake, and their exercises but the cost should never be ignored as it is a lifelong drug. Generally, the rule is to adjust insulin to one lifestyle and not vice versa.
So, I am confident if you could meet your doctor and discuss this issue with him, he most probably will arrange an alternative for you, he may discuss with you the pros and cons of multiple insulin regimes, and then you can opt for the one you like.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
