Suggest Alternative Medication For Increased Blood Pressure

I am a 63 yo female, overweight, and have been taking Enalapril 10mgs for HBP for 30 years. This has been working fine, but 6 wks ago, BP spiked and is running 150/90 s. I have Graves Disease as well and my TSH is high 6.7. Weight has never played a part in reducing my BP in the past. I have an appointment with my HealthCare Provider on Thursday. Is there anything else I need to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Changing to more effective drugs like Angiotensin receptor blocker telmesartan will be helpful to decrease the blood pressure. Blood urea and creatinine should be checked to find out your kidney is working well or not. Serum cholesterol levels should be checked also and if it is high drugs like statins should be added also. A consultation with a physician is well appreciated for this.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
I find this answer helpful
