Hi my cousin s ggtp levels are in excess of 550. Last couple of months we drank quite a lot cause of marriages.. but now stoped completely as per doctor and his doctor has given some meds as well which he is taking regularly can you please advice. Just wanted second opinion and one more thing he is epileptic and has been taking medicine for it since past about 9 years.
There are many reasons for the Liver enzymes to go high. It is actually a sign of damage to the liver. And, damaging factors may be: Excessive drinking of Alcohol. Liver infections like hepatitis. Some medications also cause raised levels of hepatic enzymes.
As a second opinion I will suggest: Abstain from drinking and smoking in any form. Take a healthy and balanced diet. Please make an appointment for proper evaluation by a Gastroentrologist who will need to go for physical examination and some blood work, ultrasound studies of abdomen. He will review the current medications too to see if there is a need to change any of them. Some kind of early liver damages are reversible to some extent or at least we may stop the damaging process there and then through medicines. But sometimes liver damage is irreversible and clinical correlation made by Gastroentrologist will decide where to move ahead.
Hope it helps. Please feel free to contact me anytime directly from my profile if you need further assistance.
Regards!
