Suggest A Remedy For A Reddish Area In The Upper Part Of The Mouth

Several days ago the roof of my mouth started to hurt. It's especially worse in the morning when I first try to eat something. I have been rinsing my mouth with Listerine which seems to lessen the pain. It's so strange to me. My husband looked at the roof of my mouth and didn't notice anything unusual except that there was a small red area.
Thank you,
Penny Brooks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that there is inflammation on the roof of the mouth leading to a red area.
It can be due to a number of causes like throat infection, acid reflux, allergic reaction to any food or medication etc..
As it is worse in the morning it can be due to acid reflux or silent reflux in case if other symptoms of acid reflux like Heartburn and chest discomfort are missing..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and also advise you throat swab culture, pH levels of throat and also advise upper G.I Endoscopy if needed and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine especially before meals to avoid pain..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
In case if acid reflux or silent reflux is diagnosed as the cause you will be advised antacids, proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole, and dietary mofications for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
