Suggest Lamictal Dosage For The Treatment Of Seizures

What is the lowest possible dose of lamictal which would be considered therapeutic for seizures? My brother age 60, has an old head injury, since 1975. He has had only 3 seizures since then. His current dose is 100 mg at night, 50 mg in am. We continue to see speech problems and some coordination issues, which we associate with too much lamictal. Would like to lessen dose, but retain therapeutic dose.

Hi,
The lowest possible dose can be at 50 mg/day but it depends upon the seizure control. If you are desiring a dose reduction, better to reduce the dose by 50 mg/week under the guidance of your doctor. If there is any recurrence of seizures, then the earlier dose can be restored. Your brother must be closely observed and monitored during this dose reduction trials.
I would advice you to attempt for dose reduction only on your doctors advice. Your doctor may consider dose reduction only if the last seizure episode is more than 3 years before.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcare magic.
