Hi,
A few patients do develop side effects of menstrual irregularities with nexito (Escitalopram). This is usually due to increase in the level of a hormone prolactin in the body. There are options of getting the blood levels of this hormone checked as well.
When there are side effects being experienced by a drug, the continuation/discontinuation of the drug is decided after weighing the risks and benefits of the drug. And this should ideally be done by the treating physician.
Nexito belongs to a class of drugs that on abrupt discontinuation has the risk of causing what is called the discontinuation syndrome which consists of distressing symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, agitation etc. It has to be gradually stopped over a course of few weeks and not suddenly.
It is advisable you discuss this with your treating doctor as he/she will have an alternative, to solve to your problem.
