Suffering From Hip Pain Due To Arthristis

I am a 62 yr female; work at desk job full time; have been walking for exercise consistently for 40 years; very healthy; 5 6 , 130 lbs; have had 2 separate cervical disc surgeres, 5 yrs apart many years ago. I now have another bulging cercical disc w/arthritis. Recently, my hips started hurting and waking me at night. During the day, sitting aggravated it, and I could only sit for a few minutes without getting up, then it was painful to walk at first. Now my tail bone has become painful sitting. I have excruciating pain in that area when standing up, and I can hardly walk at first. Once I get going I can walk just fine as long as I want, but I relive the nightmare everytime I sit down. I have the spina difida occulta which I understand is no big deal, but I haven t ask, could it have anything to do with anything? I hate having to go to doctors anymore because I had cardiovascular malformation 3 years ago with a very successful surgery but enough of tests and procedures to last a life time. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.
As per your history there can be hip arthritis which can be degenerative or due to avascular necrosis of femoral head [AVN].
I will advise you do X ray of hip again and you can consult me with reports or with your doctor.

After clinical examination IF AVN is suspected then you will need MRI.
Till time take analgesic and cartilage protecting medication like glucosamine sulphate.
For hip arthritis joint flexion, extension and rotation exercises will help.
Physiotherapist will help you better to learn more exercises in proper protocol.
If required intra-articular injection can be given.

Diet rich in calcium and protein will help.

At age of 62 osteoporosis can be associated so you may need to take calcium supplement.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
