Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
A
cholesterol test includes the
total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol , HDL
cholesterol and triglycerides.
The total cholesterol is basically the sum of the LDL and the HDL.
The LDL is the bad cholesterol, if this is high, it increases the risk of
heart disease and
stroke.
The HDL is the good cholesterol, doctors want this to be high, it is a problem if it is too low.
Your total is high but does not say what your are the values of LDL and HDL . Your high total may mean that you have a very high HDL and low LDL , which would be good.
It is important to get the break down.
If the LDL (bad cholesterol) is high then treatment involves reducing foods high in fat (using low fat butter/milk/cheeses/mayonaise/dressings for example), using a healthy oil such as olive oil, avoiding frying and the fat on meats, reducing carbs can also help- this has been shown to have a good impact on cholesterol.
Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables
Use whole grain products
Use brown rice/pasta/bread/flour instead of white
Exercise would also be important.
i hope this helps
