Suffering From Costochondritis Pain Over A Year. Tried Ibuprofen, Celebrex. Normal EEG, X Rays. How To Eliminate Pain?
Hey dr. I have been dealing with costochondritis pain for over a year. It flares up now amd then and it recently flared up for 2 months on stop. I have tried ibuprofen and celebrex. They work for a short time and pain returns. The pain is right below left breast. A bit of swelling as well. Done ECG so ruled out any heart condition. Done x rays as well and ruled out any infections. How can i eliminate the pain? I cant exercise much and my muscles are being stiff.

Hello, Thanks for writing to us.
Treatment of costochondritis involves use of simple pain relievers, rest, avoiding movements which provoke pain, use of moist heat (application of towel wet with warm water) and rarely local injections of steroids.
Gentle stretching may help your symptoms. Stand in a doorway and put your hands on the door frame at the level of your ears or shoulders. Take 1 step forward and gently stretch your chest. Try this with your hands higher up on the doorway.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
