Suffering From Bipolar Depression. Prescribed Latuda. Any Side Effects For A Teenager?

My 17 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with bipolar depression. The psychologist put her on Latuda, 20 mg. We haven't gotten the RX yet as we are waiting for insurance approval. Reading through the warnings on this drug, I'm worried about the side affects and she is worried about weight gain. Is there anything safer on the market with lower side affects? As a second opinion, is Latuda a good match for a teenager with bipolar depression? Just worried....Mom in Oklahoma

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
Looking to age of your daughter, the Latuda may not be given because it has a numbers of side effects due to its action on brain chemical reactions, instead you can try Valporic acid, although not mainly used for Bipolar disorder but can be used for it, due the minimal side effects of this molecules and it also acts on cns disorders it can be used here, but before starting it just have second opinion, take care of you daughter, have good day.
