Suffering From PCOS, Trying To Conceive. Taking Siphene, Negative Pregnancy Results. Should I Change Medicine?

Hi, I am 24 years old female, my weight is 52Kgs and height is 5 1 . I have PCOS problem and i get irregular periods usually with cycle of more than 32 days. I am married for 13 months now and we have been trying to conceive for last 5 months. I saw a gynecologist 3 months back and she had put me on Siphene 50 mg last month. Even after having siphene, my pregnency results are negative. Please let me know if it is fine to continue siphene for another cycle or is there a better medicine available for conception? Also advice a medicine for getting regular periods for women trying to conceive.

Hello,
If you are not getting pregnant even after 3 months of taking siphene, then it should be checked whether you are ovulating or not.
In 25% of females who take SIPHENE,they don't ovulate and pregnancy is not possible without ovulation.
If you are not ovulating with 50 mg of SIPHENE,you can do the following...
Increase the dose of siphene and this can be done uptill 250 mg,and if you are still not ovulating ,do the following...
If your BMI is above 25,start doing exercises. It is said that even 10% reduction of weight  will help you in achieving ovulation.
Get yourself tested for prolactin levels because women with hyperprolactinemia may not respond well to SIPHENE.
You can start METFORMIN 500 mg twice daily for 6 months as it helps in ovulation.
Discuss about these with your treating doctor.
I hope it helps
Thanks

Hello!

Thanks for posting your query.

Along with Siphene ,metformin could help you for getting pregnant.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant.

Metaphase (metformin) helps to lower blood glucose (sugar) levels, improve the body's use of insulin, and normalize hormone levels in your body.Metformin has also been found to help with PCOD symptoms.
Improvements in diet and exercise will decrease the severity of annoying PCOD symptoms and will improve your fertility and help regulate your menstrual cycle.

Treatment options for fertility in PCOD include:
Metformin (metaphase)
Clomiphene citrate,
Metformin with clomiphene ,
Gonadotropins,
In vitro fertilization (IVF).
Gonodotrophins are more expensive and raise the risk of multiple births compared to clomiphene citrate.
Hope this helps you.
Thank you.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

You need time / patience...
You are young; married just over an year; you have a lot of time!
The dose can be increased and/or the drug can be changed...but the first one has to be given reasonable time.
There are also other aspects of PCOS - What is your blood sugar? / Are you on Metformin?
There are also other options to conceive...
It is presumed the spouse has been investigated??

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Hi, thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.

Siphene is an ovulation inducing drug. It stimulates the release of egg from ovum. The starting dose of Siphene is 50 mg. If conception does not occur, then the dose can be doubled in the next three months up to a maximum dose of 200 mg.

Tamoxifen is another alternative for Siphene. It has higher ovulation and pregnancy rate than Siphene. It is claimed to result in better functioning of luteal phase improving implantation.

But, Siphene itself is effective in majority of women with PCOS. Since the chances of conception are high during ovulation and your cycles are long, use ovulation kit to predict ovulation time. Intercourse around ovulation time will improve your chances of conception. Avoid stress and sleep properly. Vitamin E supplements and regular exercise will help.

I hope this is useful to you.
