Sudden Red , Blotchy, Hot Spots On Arms, Chest And Neck While Having Drinks With Rum. No Itching. Serious?

Hi I am a 43 year old male, was watching tv while having a few drinks with rum. My girlfriend noticed a sudden change I n my skin color. My arms, chest and neck have huge red blotchy spots that look like birth marks and don't itch. Red parts of skin feel hot to the touch and normal colored spots feel cool. Do I need to head to emergency room?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Sometimes intake of alcoholic drinks may induce a flushing reaction. To treat the same
Take an oral antihistamine like cetirizine
Apply calamine lotion over affected area
Sit in a cool environment
Avoid alcohol, spicy foods

It should subside with oral antihistamine alone. If it does not or you develop any systemic complaints like breathlessness or abdominal cramps then consult a doctor immediately.
Take care
