Sore Throat, Pain In Tonsils, Bruised Sensation On Tongue, Red Bumps Behind Throat. Causes And Cure?

Hi. My throat has been sore for about a week now. Not necessarily my throat, feels more like my tonsils. First it was the right one. It s fine now and now the left hurts. Now my tongues on the back left side feels bruised. What could be causing this? It also appears that I might have red bumps on the very back of my throat but they do not hurt The past couple of days

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there appears to be possibility of acute tonsillitis with surrounding pharyngitis.
Presence of sore throat, red bumps suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ ENT surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and chest x ray, throat swab culture and sensitivity.
You should also go for laryngoscopy for better clarification of throat.
You should take complete antibiotic course, decongestants and mucolytics.
Avoid cold drinks, oily and spicy food.
Perform gargles three times in day.
Take care,

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

The small red bumps on the back of the throat might be due to granular pharyngitis.

The sore throat might be part of a viral or bacterial infection. Any history of fever, cold etc ?

If it is a bacterial infection, you might need to take antibiotics. However, If it is viral, it is self limiting and will get better on its own.

Do try the following measures:

Drink warm water at regular intervals .
Have a teaspoon of honey mixed with a few drops of lime.
Warm saline gargles 3 to 5 times a day.
Avoid smoking/alcohol/spicy food.
Do steam inhalation 3 times a day, if any cough with phlegm or symptoms of sinusitis.

If it does not get better, please visit an ENT specialist for a thorough examination.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan

Hi welcome to health care magic forum. You are suffering with ac pharyngitis secondary to common cold. It is due to bacterial infection.
I advise you to consult an E.N.T.surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have culture and sensitivity of the throat swab besides other routine tests.
Avoid taking cooldrinks , fruits and juices to avoid cold attacks and secondary infection.
Thanks for calling.
