Small Child, Having Diarrhoea, High Fever, Stools With Kidney Bean Shaped Particles. Treatment?
My 14 month son has been having diarrhea accompagnied by very high fevers for 9 days now. This morning when he woke up he had a full diaper and in his poop were kidney bean shaped black things that were very hard and some other clear chunks. Any idea what that might be? Our doctor has asked for a stool sample but it isn t always easy to get one from a baby with diarrhea...
Seems your son has ingested something nonedible which has infected him and also has come out of his gut now. If the diarrhea continues, please do not wait and see a pediatrician as you cannot afford to let the child develop dehydration due to frequent stools and plus the doctor will advice antibiotics to be tried first hand (empirical ones) just keep the diapers in clean polythese bags, say ziploc bag or something, and carry to the laboratory. In the lab they will take the sample to check the stool. This is essential for deciding further steps in the treatment if the empirically used antibiotics do not work for your son. Also the doctor will treat your son with antidiarrheal if necessary. Meanwhile ample of fluid are must. Avoid milk for time being. Hope this helps. get back for further query.
Hello!
Thanks for posting your query in HCM.
To answer your query I want to ask you does your child eat mud or palster , or does he lick walls or doors?
Your child may be having Pica. That means he might have picked some thing and eaten it.
your doctor is absolutely right in asking for stool sample for testing.
