Hi Charlie, Thank you for trusting HCM. Yes lowering your weight will help with the hernia, plus many other benefits for the quality of your life and your health. If walking is tiring for your try walking in a swimming pool, or movements in a swimming pool under proper supervision of a life guard. Please discuss such an option with your doctor. hope that helped. Dr. Nazzal
