Should The Leads In The Heart Be Removed Or Replaced As There Were No Heart Attacks?

I have a defilbilator and only two leads are working I was told that my heart (don t know proper medical term) is 45 and usually it is put in if you are 25-35. I m 70 yrs old and have had defilibator since 09 never had heart attack in fact i ve never had any heart problems. when this first occured was put in hospital found nothing wrong with heart. My question is should i let them take it out or replace leads if they have no trouble if not they plan on capping leads. what do you think i should do?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

As you refer you have an ICD-pacemaker (incorporated on a single device) implanted. You are concerned about the usefulness of that device.

As doctors have previously decided to implant that device, there must have been a clear and strong indications for both exerting functions, that is pacing and life-threatening arrhythmia suppresion (pacemaker+ICD).

I don't believe that these defined indications have faded already.

On my opinion, you have to discuss with your treating dotors about the optimal management strategy (if you need to modulate device settings, to re-positions its leads, and other tecnical matters), as they know the full picture of your prior and actual medical history, your actual cardiac performance, potential rhythm and conductance disorders.

If you have concrete medical informations regarding this issue, do not hesitate to consult them with us.
Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
