Should The Blisters On The Burnt Wound Be Treated?

Hello, my 12 year old daughter scalded herself yesterday, and we took her to the Whittington Hospital in North London to have it inspected and if necessary treated. We were sent away feeling that we had wasted the doctor s time -- he actually laughed at us -- but today, although there is no pain, the area has blistered significantly. Should we leave these blisters intact or not?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

I am sorry that the doctor made you feel that way.

The blisters should be left intact for the time being. If there are burst in a non sterile manner then there is an increased risk for infection.

She should be reviewed by another doctor because she would need a specific anti septic agent used for burns (silver sulfadiazine) and may also need antibiotics and a dressing as well.
Depending on the degree of the burn, she may need additional periodical reviews.

I hope this helps
