Should I Change Medications For Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy?

I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. My neurologist has had me on 1800 mg/ day of neurontin, but I don't think it has helped. My neurologist left the area and I saw a new neurologist who is weaning me down to 900 mg daily and adding 30 mg cymbalta and Foltanx 3-25-2. Any thoughts on this?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Both neurontin and cymbalta are first line drugs in treating peripheral neuropathy symptoms. They belong to different groups with different mechanisms of action.

So it was ok for the first neurologist to have tried neurontin first. Since it is having no efficacy though and it's already a pretty high dose, I agree that another alternative like cymbalta, with a different mechanism of action can be tried. Hopefully it will work better than neurontin.

As for Foltanx it contains nutritional supplements, you can take it without any worry.
