Should I Be Worried About The Frequent Nose Bleeds Occurring After A Fall?

Hi, my name is becky. On saturday night i fell backwards and hit my head on the edge of a pavement, it cut open and i was unconscious for about a minute. I also had three nose bleeds that night, following on from the head injury. I was taken to hospital where I received a brain scan which came back all clear, and had 4 stitches put into my head. However since saturday I have had another three nosebleeds. Prior to this injury I have never had a nose bleed in my life. Should I be worried that I am now getting them quite frequently?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram nathan, an ENT surgeon and I will try to help you out with your problem.

You must understand that nose is a very delicate organ and is very well supplied by blood vessels so even a small injury will cause nose bleeds which can be recurrent.

However it will get better when the area around the injury heals and your nose bleeds will stop so do not worry.

In any case you must do these:
1. take steam inhalation with menthol at least two to three times in a day for a week or two

2. take an antihistamine like levocetrizine once a day for two weeks. your doctor will know about this.

3. Do not pick or meddle with your nose

4. If the nose bleed persists then you must take a scan of the nose with special emphasis on the nose or nasal bones and get back to me or any ENT with the report

Hope this helps

regards

Dr Sriram nathan
