Should I Be Worried About Intake Of BCAA Powder?

Hi Doctor, Im currently taking 20mg of Citalopram for an anxiety disorder. I am also a regular gym goer. I have just obtained some BCAA powder with a ratio of 4:1:1 Luecine, isoluecine, valine. Im aware that BCCA stimulate seritonin, do I have anything to be worried about?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is nothing to worry about. BCAA do not have drug interactions with citalopram. However try to consume these two at separate times. Consult you psychiatrist to alter the dose if required. Along with body building perform yoga and meditation for a calmer mind. Remember health is a complete state of physical, mental, social and spiritual well being and not merely absence of a disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
