Should Estrogen Be Taken For Hot Flashes And Mood Swings?

Hi , I was wondering if i still need to take estrogen. I had two surgeries both 1/2 hysterectomies. last one was a year and a half ago and took the ovaries. I am turning 46 soon. I have hot flashes that I can stand. night is worse but my fan is helpful. I am most worried about aging quickly all of a sudden. My mood is so so. my zeal for life is a little down but Im feeling better.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Your symptoms could be de to low estrogen level that cause hot flashes and mood swings.
You can go for estrogen replacement therapy after consulting the OBGYN specialist to relieve the symptoms.
It is available in form of pill and transdermal patch.
Transdermal estradiol patch is found to be more effective than pill and less side effects.
Avoid stress, take healthy diet, do regular exercise.
Hope this may help you
