I've been on the pill for 5 months and I was wondering if I should still use a form of protection (condom) on the first week I'm back taking it, after the week rest or placebo. I've been using a condom the whole first week then nothing on second and third, am I doing it wrong?

Condom use is not needed while on birth control pills. Only regular intake of birth control pills are sufficient to prevent pregnancy if taken regularly as scheduled.
Yes use of condom is advised for 1st week, if you start active pills from 2nd to 5th day of menstrual bleeding. If you are using the pill from 1st days of menstrual bleeding then use of condom is not necessary even in first week of menstrual cycle.
