i am seeing a consultant tommorow to decide wether i should take simvastatin for the rest of my life. i have been reading about it and have frightened myself last test my chol was 6.9 4.8 of that being ldl? my uncle has had a heart attack probably his life style, my dad has high cholesterol 12, my sis ter 4 yrs younger had a stroke in her 30's life style again suspected. my mother has a genetic mitochondual myopapthy, i wont have the test london has iso;ated the gene. i only have one kidney due to a deformity on the one removed. what do i do? i hate taking medication. sorry to trouble you. thanks sharon
You should take statin for a long time. If your cholesterol level is 6.9 and LDL is 4.8 despite of taking simvastatin, I would go for Atorvastatin with higher dose, it is safer and Atorvastatin is stronger than Simvastatin. Don't worry, just have liver and kidney analyses done twice a year.
Hope I could help you
