Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Miralax Be Used After Being Diagnosed With Twisted Sigmoid Colon?
With a colonoscopy I have been diagnosed with a twisted Sigmoid colon. The gastro doc said that I should eat a high fiber diet and use Miralax every day. Another doctor told me I should NOT use Miralax every day, that I should just take Magnesium Citrate. I have tried both, and they both work-usually. My question-is one better than the other and what is best when they don t work successfully. Sometimes my abdomen feels really sore and I feel like I couldn t eat another bite until something gives. What is best to use then? More Miralax or a stronger laxative?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about colonoscopy reported as twisted sigmoid colon, Gastro advised you high fiber and Miralax, another one advised Magnesium Citrate. Since both are effective in your case, I would advise you to have them on alternate days to be effective for a long time. There is no need to change the dosages until required. Take plenty of water orally. Avoid the foods and beverages that are known to give you constipation. Keep away from stress and anxiety.
