Should Levothyroxine Dosage Be Reduced As The Age Increases?

I had a thyroidectomy as at 20 yrs. Now as a senior citizen, new doctor (new city just moved) wants to lower my levothyroxine dose of 100mcg because I m older now. Is it true that seniors should be on a lower dose. I am very active and haven t changed my routine in decades.

hi mam/sir,its true that in elderly, levothyroxine dose is to be lowered.their thyroxine requirement is 20% less than younger population.please do not worry as reduction of dose wont affect your activity.any how, when you have your TSH level checked(after using the low dose levothyroxine for atleast 1-2 months),we can determine if the dose is adequate or if any increment necessary.trust me,most of my elderly patients had never experienced any ill effects with dose reduction.so,just go ahead.hope my answer clears your doubts.i wish god showers a very sound physical and mental health on you.any other health queries, please let me know.thank you.wish you and your family a merry christmas.take care.bye.
