Should I Take Cholesterol Medicine If My LDL Levels Are At Borderline?

My LDL is on the borderline. My HDL is rather high. I take good care of my self--no sugar, no fat, practically fruit and vegetable diet. I exercise regularly. I am 75 and I weigh 170 pounds. But I have been stressed--ailing mother. I have been driving 1600 miles every two months. Should I take cholesterol medication? Michael H. Mitias,

The decision matrix the doctors are now being asked to do takes into consideration current lifestyle of patient, family history and lipid profile. Whether you should take statins or not is up to your doctor who has access to your entire file and your lipid panel. Whether you take statins or not, you should be following a heart healthy diet at this point as this is your warning sign. To engage in a higher quality of life later, make positive permanent changes today in your nutrition and exercise habits. Good luck and best wishes to your mom.
