Should I Go With 14 Mg Of Prednisone For 10-12 Weeks For Inflammation?

I am borderline diabetic and my blood pressure is on the high side. I have a kidney infection which has lowered my function to 36 from 59 in 2010. The culprit might be rabeprozole which I stopped taking 4 mo. ago which might be why my function has leveled off. Should I go on 14 mg of prednisone for 10-12 wks. to get rid of the inflamation and hopefully raise my kidney function? Send answer to - YYYY@YYYY Thank you Doug

Proton pump inhibitors such as rabeprozole only very rarely cause kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis). Prednisone MIGHT be helpful IF there is interstitial nephritis and if it is due to rabeprozole. BUT it certainly will make the diabetes at least somewhat worse and can often cause the hypertension to get worse. If the kdieny disease is due ot diabetes and/or hypertension and not interstitial nephritis, they prednisone has no role to play.
