Should I Consult The Doctor For Cold And Yellow Discharge From Ears?
My 4 1/2 year old daughter had a small cold and now is getting a yellow/ green discharge out of her left ear. She had tubes due to chronic ear infections when she was younger but fell out about 8 months ago. Since she had the tubes the ear infections disappeared. Also she seems a little congested but doesnt seem to be in any pain. When asked if she feels sick or if her ears hurt she says no and continues to act like her normal cheerful self. Should I take her in to see a doctor for antibiotics?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter is having cold and yellow discharge from ears, Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query but in your case it seems to me that the probable reason for blockage of ear is eustachian tube dysfunction , in which eustachian tube gets block and infection sometimes spread to ear if upper respiratory track infection , cold or post nasal drip left untreated for long times as in your case. For now keep your ear dry and apply hot dry compresses on external ear. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like CT scan , throat swab test , examination with otoscope and viral culture test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) , decongestant and expectorant.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
