Should I Be Concerned For The Leukocytes At 59% With Low White Blood Cell Count?
My 73 yr old father had a cbc done which showed is leuckocytes @59% white blood cell count at 2.2 his platlet count at 72 and his mchc at 32.8. He had a bone marrow biopsy also no results yet. He also had a large boil in his arm pit. The gram stain test showed ecoli. Very concerned.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Yes, its a matter of concern with low leukocyte count and infection. 2. Possibly, he has pancytopenia due to vit B12 deficiency. 3. Bone marrowbiopsy will show megaloblastic change. Get a vit B12 assay done. Treatment involves diet rich in vit B12 like fish, egg, green leafy vegetables and also supplements. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
