Should I Ask My Doctor To Switch Doxycyclene To Stronger Oral Antibiotic (Avelox Or Levaquinn)for Sinus?

I have had sinus disease 12 years; 2 sinus surgeries (last one in 2007). Have 2-3 infections a year. Last year had one for 3 months, finally cured by 1,000 Biaxin for 8 weeks, along with nebulized Levoflaxin for 4 weeks concurrent. Now have had infection since Feb. 1. Started with Biaxin 1,000 mg, started to improve after two weeks then got sicker. Added nebulized Levoflaxin x daily on top of Biaxin and 10 day steroid taper. Doc switched me to Doxycyclene 100mg. twice daily and stay on nebulized Levoflaxin. Can breathe great but feel their is biofilm/mucus trapped in the frontal sinus (eyebrow pain) that's not draining. Should I ask to be switched to stronger oral antibiotic (Avelox or Levaquinn)? thank you

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Your history suggests that you experience recurrent sinus infections.
The recurrent sinus infection and intake of various antibiotics can cause resistance among the infecting organisms.
The pain near the eye brows suggests infection of the frontal sinus.
The mucus discharged into the nasal cavity can be microscopically examined and culture studies can be done to identify the causative organism.
Antibiotic sensitivity needs to be done to identify the most appropriate antibiotic effective against the infecting organism.

Thanks and take care
