Should Copper-T With A Missing Thread According To A Scan Be Removed?

Hello Dr, Iam priya 25yrs old.I had a Copper-T IUD 1.5yrs ago.I went a vaginal examination of IUD yesterday. The thread of IUD was missing. The Dr requested to undergo an X-ray to check the IUD presence. After examination, found the IUD s presence without threads in the correct position and advised to continue having the IUD. But while removing, how can it be done without threads and how will they locate the IUD.The Dr who examined is an Oncologist . So she had no idea of removal process. Can you please state about this case. Can i continue having or remove IUD? How will you remove?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is advisable to go for removal of Copper-T without or displaced thread and get inserted a new one properly. This is because, although now the Cooper-T without thread may be in proper position, it may be difficult to predict its displacement and remove if it happens. Hence, better not to take any such chances and rather prefer to go for a new one. Kindly consult Gynecologist in this regard for removal of the old one and reinsertion of a new one.

Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further. All the best.

Regards,
