Should Augmentin Be Taken Every 6 Hours For Bad Tooth?

I am concerned that an antibiotic is being given too often for a bad tooth. This medication is Augmentin 875 mg and it was originally prescribed for q 12 hours. I did not get it at the times I expected it. Now it is being offered to me every 6 hours and I think it is too often. I had one at 6 pm and then I am ordered to take another at midnight. The next dose is for 6 a.m. I am consulting with a dentist this week.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Augmentin is an antibiotic combination containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid..
It comes in different ratios and is not given in a dosage of less than 8 hours gap even the tablets with lesser strength are also given minimum of 8 hourly..

As far as Augmentin 875mg is concerned it should be taken twice a week at a gap of 8 hours, therefore you should not take it 6 hourly as it will be an overdose of medicine and can cause side effects common ones are stomach discomfort like hyperacidity, acid reflux etc along with other toxic effects..
Therefore consult your treating physician and get evaluated and take the medicine after a proper discussion..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
