Should 80% Of The Intestines Be Removed For Severe Constipation?

I have fought all my life to go to the rest room. I am 45 now and even a stomach surgery and the removal of over 2 feet of intestines and many so very many medication I am still having trouble with constipation. Now a new doctor wants to remove 80% of my intestines. He feels this is the last resort and the only to start having a more norm life. Should I go through with it?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of constipation for life long, surgery to remove 2 feet of intestine and another Doctor suggested to get removed the 80 per cent of the intestine.
I can understand that you have constipation and must have non-innervated large bowel the part of which must have been removed.
I would advise you the following:
Get a fresh colonoscopy, large bowel manometry to know the cause if there large bowel is not working properly, it is better removed so that you start getting proper motions.
This is a standard procedure.
You may get a second of a Proctologist.
There are medicines for such a disease yet the newer medications and manipulation with laxatives, enema and diet full of fibers can help you and worth taking for a few months before you go for the surgery.
I find this answer helpful
