Several nights ago just before going to sleep, reading and nodding off, I suddenly had a visual sensation of very bright lighting with whirling sparkling lights. In retrospect, I probably was half asleep. What was disturbing was the very strong feeling of dread and a conscious awareness that this is exactly what actually dying is like and, surprisingly, that I had to fight it and "go back". As a morbidly amusing thought it actually occurred to me amidst the fear and dread that this was what those idiots with their near death experiences mean about the 'light' they're always going on about"
The ONLY reason I keep thinking about it is that the belief that that was what was happening was so strong.
Also, I'm interested in if this was a physical symptom of something much more boring.
