Removed Appendix. Taken Antibiotics For Redness And Swelling Of Incision. Abnormal Temperature. Need For Concern?

My husband had his appendix out 9 days ago..on Friday his doctor prescribed antibiotics for a surgical incision infection that included redness, swelling , pain, and low grade fever . Last night his fever went up as high as 101.5..then finally with the aid of Tylenol and advil broke at about 5 a.m. this morning. Throughout the day the redness has improved, but the swelling has increased as well as pain in his groin area. He also has a lower than normal temp, running about 95.3 to 95.5. He s eating, no nausea, but in general just feels lousy. Is this something that I should be concerned about, or do I wait until his post surgical checkup on Wednesday to address the issue?

Hi,
Thanks for discussing your problem with us.
No, you should not wait, rather take him to the doctor as soon as possible.
Swelling of the groin & hypothermia ( lower than normal temperature) may point to developing septicemia or some disseminated infection.
Take this seriously & seek for urgent help.
Best wishes.
