Reduced Cholesterol And LDL, High Increase In ALT And GGTP After Taking Crestoer 10 Mg. Advised To Lower Dosage. Any Alternative?
Hi Doctor
I have high cholestrol and last month my doc did blood testing & results were cholestrol 246 - LDL-164
My doc gave me crestoer 10mg and after one month checkup the cholestrol is 188 & LDL-97 the result of 1month is fine. But, my AST is 71 & last month was 17, ALT is 148 & last month was 25 and GGTP 61 last month was 30. I am worried and doc advised to lower to 5mg crestor. I would like to know if this is ok or any other alternative i should be watching.
Hi, Welcome to HCM, After going through your details, your Lipids are high and need modification in diet and regular exercise and medical treatment with statin. I am sure you must be taking care of your diet and exercise. Rosuvastatin is working for you as your total cholesterol and LDL are reduced, it is known that this drug can raise liver enzymes marginally hence your doctor is right in reducing the dose of Rosuvastatin. This OK you should wait for i month and repeat Lipid profile and liver enzymes to check status. If you take alcohol then please stop as it is toxic to liver and if you are overweight then try to lose extra weight. Take care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
