Red Rashes On Forehead Of Child, Skin Allergy, Excessive Oil Secretion, Cold And Cough. Used Cetaphil Lotion. Is It Measles?

We live in bangalore my son is 6.5 month old and has developed some red rashes on forehead, more behind ears (specifically) left ear and some on neck and shoulders. Saw my doctor n she said looks like skin allergy due to dryness or excess oil secretion.

Am applying cetaphil lotion with dermocalm its 2nd day but rashes look same n during some part of day much more.

What is it and can it be measles? He also caught cold and cough yesterday. How long can this take to cure? Please advise.

hello dear
thanks for your query at HCM
measle will have course of events like
1 prodromal phase: fever , cold, sneezing, vomiting and diarrhea
2 eruptive phase: typical rash satrting behind the ear and spreading all over the body in few hours.
diagnosis of measles is mainly by typical rash.
it might not be measles rash because child would have had high grade fever and cold before and during the rash.
it might have been allergic rash only.
it would take atleast two to three days to subside.
if doesnot subside please consult your doctor once again.
regards

Hi thanks for your question at healthcare magic
6 1/2 month baby with red rashes on face and neck and shoulders more likely dry skin or atopic dermatitis. you need to do following things
1. wash your baby's face with lukewarm water during bath
2. after bath tap dry with soft cloth
3. you can apply cetaphil moisturizing lotion 3-4 times a day for at least 6 months.
4. If it continues to be the same without any improvement even after a week then better to take dermatologist opinion.

Atopic dermatitis is very common in infants and more so if there is a family history of skin or dust allergies, asthma. Generally the course of the disease is it get cured but recurs especially during winter months.
Its definitely not measles since in measles there will be ragi like rash all over the body along with cough, running nose and red eyes (conjunctivitis).
Hope this answers your question
take care
